Anyone who is inclined to the horror side of video games will most likely have heard of Dead by Daylight and the numerous killers they have brought into their game since 2016. However, what makes the game truly stand out is its ability to bring in both originally made killers and well-known licensed killers that people have seen on the big screen. From Michael Meyers to Ghost Face to even Leatherface, it seems that any and every killer, whether from movies, shows, or other games, is the possibility of them being featured. If there's anything we can learn of the departure of the Demogorgon from the game, however, it's that actually acquiring these licenses can be a bit tricky while being paired with unforeseen roadblocks that could ruin the possibilities of this idea. Let's take a look at some of the more popular licensed killers that could appear in this moshpit of murderers while understanding the chances of them entering the game.
Jason Voorhees: Friday the 13th
You can't call yourself a horror fan of any genre without understanding the notoriety that everyone's famous hockey mask-wearing slasher evokes. The sheer number of movies and success in other games would make one think that Jason would be a shoo-in for Dead By Daylight, right? Especially since he's had a movie crossover with Freddy Kruger in the past.
Sadly, right now, it's not that straightforward. You see, one of the original writers of the very first Friday the 13th, Victor Miller, is suing Sean Cunningham, the director, for rights over the franchise. This lawsuit became so hotly contested that Friday the 13th: The Game was practically abandoned with no new updates coming for it as a result. There is some news trickling in about the lawsuit finally coming to a close, but whether its results will lead back to a possible partnership with Dead By Daylight at the end of it all is anyone's guess.
Chucky: Child's Play
Who could forget everyone's favorite possessed kid's toy who enjoys mischief and murder in equal amounts when given the opportunity. While the idea of him being included sounds like a great idea, in theory, provided how Chucky is being given a resurgence in popularity due to his new show. In practice, it's not hard to imagine the difficulties of Chucky being put in the game since killers literally need to carry survivors to hook them in-game. But, if anyone could figure out this dilemma, it's Behavior Interactive.
Getting Chuckee into the game itself wouldn't be the most challenging prospect compared to other killers since he's owned by MGM and has a version of him used by Universal Studios. The latter has expressed interest in the past at putting Chucky in a video game, and if the stars align, it could very well happen should the opportunity arise.
Springtrap: Five Nights At Freddys
Though FNAF is more of a niche horror series, one could argue that it revolutionized the horror game genre, what with how many other games have been created due to inspiration of the murderous animatronic concept that Scott Cawthon introduced. The idea that Spring Trap: AKA William Afton, the ultimate killer who is responsible for all the death within FNAF being a killer in Dead by Daylight sounds like a match made in heaven or hell depending on your outlook, thanks in particular to his grizzly appearance fusing flesh and metal.
Despite this, Scott Cawthon has expressed in the past that despite many of his fans being open to FNAF having a place in DBD, he showed no interest in collaborations. However, that's no reason to give up hope, as Scott has been handing over the reins of his franchise to Steel Wool Studios and has taken more of a back seat role to his game, enjoying pseudo retirement. Down the line, Steel Wool might be open to collaborations, but it's hard to imagine this could pan out without Scott's blessing.
Alien and Predator: Alien and Predator Series
Out of the different licensed killers that could enter the Entity's realm, both Alien and Predator would fit the setting all too well given their backgrounds. The sheer amount of weaponry and gear that the predator could use, along with its tracking and stealth background would make him an easy mechanical match in the game. The Alien's track record of horror to anyone foolish enough to let their guard down amongst in space is well known. If given the opportunity, it could share some of that horror to survivors held within the realm of the Entity.
The best part about this idea is that out of all the killers mentioned thus far, they arguably have the best chance of being included within Dead By Daylight. The reason for this line of thinking is because Alien and Predator have previously been used in cross-overs before including a game crossover for Mortal Kombat X. Interestingly enough, Jason Voorhees and Leatherface were included to fit the horror monster theme that came with that games' DLC. If they were used in such a manner in the past, it's hard to believe that they wouldn't be used again in the future, to promote a future movie.
Conclusion
This is only scratching the surface for the amount of possible licensed killers that could still potentially enter the realm of the Entity. Still, it's an excellent way to see just what factors could come into play for possibilities for future collaborations and what this franchise could offer for the future.
